A really good 95 show and excellent SBD!!
It will be a great day when all of the 95 shows have their soundboards on the archive. And an even better day when the ones that need to be pitch corrected
...
by having their pitch/speed fixed, have that done as well. Everybody knows that there are some 95 shows that have moments that are downright tough and shocking to listen to. But over time, it has been an unfortunate thing that those moments have become the reason many just totally dismiss these last tours of Grateful Dead music. It just simply is not the case that those handful of rough jerry moments represent the reality of the majority of these 95 shows....and the facts lie in the music. What partly makes this show really worth listening to is the awesome quality of the recording. Its true this show gets a little overshadowed by the 21st.... that show has one of the best friend of the devils and in some people's opinion one of the best foolish Hearts ever played. Which is a pretty strong statement considering this era, but I understand the sentiments . Anyways, after knowing about 2/21/95 for years, it took until now for me to sit down and really listen to this show. There are some really great moments in the first set and versions of songs that stand up with any, like little red rooster! By no means am I going to sit here and try to say that these shows feature Top Notch Jerry guitar solos, but his playing is more than passable and when you mix that in with the fact that the other guys are playing as good as they can, that gives you a four-star show in my opinion. the second set has a great set list! The eyes of the world has this wonderful percussion playing during it, and super classy clean tone piano, making this one have a very unique sound for this era... Jerry never really takes off, in fact he somehow enters in the song one beat off but by the end of the first verse he's lined up with the downbeat again and everything is smooth sailing from there on. However, the beginning of Uncle John's Band is really nice and this is one of two Uncle John's from early Spring 95 (Omni night 2 is the other and its a monster) that blow up into BIG psychedelic Jam improv fests that make them very notable, imo "must hear" versions. It sounds to be like the drummers have really started drums a little early and are practically running the band members off the stage, which is probably why it says drums is only 7 minutes. It's really more like 12:00 with the last 5 minutes of Uncle John's mixing in with the music. Very cool stuff hear!!!! version worth checking out. Drums Space segments from 95 are worth listening to any of the shows alone... they have gotten into a territory by this point where you could never be disappointed with a drums space from this era. Some of them are total free form music art masterpieces. Especially later in the spring. Very much unlike previous years where I sort of understand why people skip drums space. But in 95, they are often the highlights of the show and that's not because the music isn't good. It's because the majority of these Drums Space segments from 95 come off like purposefully created soundscapes, sometimes like songs... The long sequence of songs after Space is unique for 95. Jerry seems to cut the guitar solo extremely short in Not Fade Away but the last two songs of this show reveal the band as a vocal Powerhouse that is right up there with soundimg as good as they've ever been vocally anywhere in their career. Vince is a five-star player in 95 and his contributions unfortunately overshadowed by the drama surrounding Jerry, which is a shame because too many people just throw vince under the bus without ever really coming to terms and realizing what an amazing player he became within the band during these last tours. Anyways, if you're looking to get the complete picture about how the bands sound continue to evolve and how the 95 sound is different from the 94 sound, which is different from the 93 sound Etc etc, this is a good show to listen to even though there are more famous and five star shows from 1995. I'm on a mission to review them all!!! 4 stars, 3.5 for playing and 5 for sound.

Wuhhh? One star???
Wtf?? There is no way that this show deserves a one-star or a two-star review. First of all, it gets a solid star boost just for the excellent sound quality

of the recording alone. There is a huge lack of good quality soundboard recordings that actually play at the right speed for 1995 shows, it's so frustrating considering that every other year has a million of them. I'm not sure what that's all about but I have a guess. But anyways, thanks to Charlie Miller and everybody else for the work they did to get us this recording for this show. It's actually a solid three and a half star show so I gave it four overall. Everything from drums on is very well played and stands up with just about anything else from the time period. There is a huge Jam after Uncle John's Band and I'm pretty sure Jerry has walked off the stage with the band keeps going after it. If you're a deadhead, that means you love Grateful Dead music and this is the Grateful Dead. I won't go into a song by song breakdown I was not at this show. Too many reviews of people talking about circumstances around the concerts and not the music itself. Nobody's here listening to these shows to have how Jerry looked or that it was your last show because of such and such make any difference to the quality of listening to this music now. Definitely worth a listen and not an upsetting display of Jerry's playing. First of all there's four songs after space which if you look at 1995 shows they quickly settled into a pattern of only two songs and even some of those shows are practically five star, again, for the era. Sometimes I think people are listening to like 89 dead and then they pop in a 95 show and write these reviews. That's not how you're supposed to do it people. Anyways rock on and keep studying this awesome music like I do!
